Obituary of Peter J. Benedict, Jr.

Mount Pleasant, Peter J. "Pick" Benedict, age 86 of Prittstown, died Saturday June 4, 2016 in the Rehabilitation Center of Greater Pittsburgh, Greensburg, PA . Mr. Benedict was born February 27, 1930 in Mount Pleasant, PA, the son of the late Peter "Punk" and Pearl Carnes Benedict. He was a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church. He was a 1949 graduate of the former Ramsay High School. Pick was employed for all of his working life as a contractor, the Owner and Operator of Benedict Construction Co. He was a life member of the Assunta Club and a member of the Bullskin Twp. Historical Society. Pete was also a member of the Bullskin Township Lions Club, being honored as Lion of the year in 2003, and receiving the Presidents Award, the Melvin Jones Fellow Award in 2006. He was an excellent contractor, whose ideas and work can be seen throughout the surrounding communities. Pick enjoyed working in his garden, and taking care of his flowers. He was an avid bird watcher, who especially enjoyed feeding the Hummingbirds. Pete was a loving father, husband, grandfather and a wonderful friend to many. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Pete is survived by his loving family: his children; Peter J. "Jody" Benedict, III of Scottdale, Robert W. "Fats" Benedict and his wife Nanette of Acme, Rebecca Kovalchick and her husband George of Hopwood, and Mary Wagner of Scottdale, his beloved grandchildren: Jaime Wagner, James Wagner, Jr., Stephen Kovalchick, Courtney Gilleland, Ashley Downey, Heidi Ann Benedict-Campbell, Robert Benedict, Jr., Brooke Sisitki, and Brianna Benedict, and by his sixteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Christina Kachmarek of Greensburg , his sisters-in-law, Ethel Benedict and Faye Benedict, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Pick was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Joanne Louise Mason Benedict in 1993, his three brothers, Infant Christopher Benedict, Phillip "Bud" Benedict, and John "Jack" Benedict and by his sisters; Elsie Biller, Madalyn "Mannie" Kantorik, and Pearl Ann Shumar. Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM in the funeral home, with the Rev. Richard J. Kosisko officiating. Interment will be in the Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville.
