Obituary of Alvin G. Smith

Alvin G. Smith, age 91 of Mount Pleasant, PA, formerly of Irwin, died Tuesday Sept. 6, 2016 in Harmon House Convalescent Center, Mount Pleasant, PA. Mr. Smith was born October 13, 1924 in Mount Pleasant, PA, the son of the late Scott and Gladys Hauser Smith. He was a member of Brush Creek United Church of Christ of Irwin. Alvin was a Veteran of WWI who served in the United States Army, in Co. I 27th Infantry, 25th Division and was discharged as S/Sgt. He was employed for more than 34 years as a Draftsman for Westinghouse Electric, East Pittsburgh, and then worked for Howard Johnsons in New Stanton. Alvin was a life member of Shidle Lodge #601 F & AM of Irwin. He is survived by his loving family: his daughter, Karen O'Malley and her husband Patrick of Houston, TX, his grandchildren; Donald, Ava, Jessica, Keith, and Ashley and by his great grandchildren; Austin, Michael, Pierce, Vivian, Blaine, Logan, and Kristopher. Alvin is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and by his friends from Amber House. In addition to his parents, Alvin was preceded in death by his wife, Jean D. Morton Smith in December 2013, his son, Gary A. Smith in March 2013, and by his brothers and sister; William and Scott Smith and Marie Begonia, and his step father; Auther J. Keller. Family and friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 PM. at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant. Funeral Services will be held Friday at 1:00 PM in the funeral home, with the Rev. Thomas C. Shirer officiating. Interment with military rites accorded by the American Legion Post 446 will be in the Brush Creek Cemetery, Irwin.
