Obituary of John Thomas Halligan

John Thomas Halligan, 86 of Greensburg, formerly of Mount Pleasant, passed away February 2, 2023 in Westmoreland Manor.  John was born July 3, 1936 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Frank and Johanna O’Toole Halligan.

Mr. Halligan was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, where he proudly served his country.   John graduated from Carrick High School and attended The University of Pittsburgh.  John began his career at Levin’s Furniture Store then worked for Kaufmann’s Department Store, and for State Senator Bob Regola.

John is survived by his loving wife of 52 years; Elizabeth “Betty” Sapola Halligan, his daughter, Maureen and three grandchildren; Jacob, Erin and Sara; sister Joanne Phillips; sister-in-law, Betty Sapola; brother-in-law, Lawrence O’Toole, and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his infant daughter Colleen and his sisters; Rosemary Halligan and Patricia Stoiber.

Family and friends will be received Monday from 4 until 8 PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle St., Mt. Pleasant.  A blessing service will be Tuesday in the Funeral Home at 12-noon followed by his Funeral Mass at 12:30 at Visitation of The Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 740 Walnut St., Mt. Pleasant.  Interment will follow in Visitation Parish Cemetery.   Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 446.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Visitation Parish, or charity of one’s choice in memory of John Halligan.
