Obituary of Irene J. Palanko

Irene J. Palanko, 95, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, Passed away Friday, February 10, 2023, in Redstone Highlands, Greensburg.  Irene was born June 20, 1927, in Mt. Pleasant, a daughter of the late Frank and Rose (Soforic) Rydle. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Joseph Palanko, and also her sister, Jean Rydle.  She is also survived by her daughter, Debbie Mikita and husband Ed; her grandson, Pastor Jonathan Hartland and wife Erin; and great-grandchildren, Lily and Luke Hartland. 

Irene was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant.  She was very thankful for the many cards and gifts she received from the congregation. She was a stay at home housewife, but also did the billing for her husband Joe's electrical contracting business.  After he retired, they spent many happy winters vacationing in Ft. Myers, FL.  She graduated from Ramsay High School in Mt. Pleasant in 1946.  Irene really enjoyed helping to Plan their reunions, and visiting with her classmates.  Irene especially loved the numerous family gatherings held at all the holidays.  She often talked about how much she enjoyed babysitting Jonathan before he started going to school.

In honoring Irene's wishes, there will be no public viewing or service.  The family would like to thank the entire staff at Greensburg Redstone Highlands, and also Redstone at Home Hospice for their excellent care and compassion.  If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Mt.
