Obituary of John Paul Chasarik

John P. “Chas” Chasarik, 79, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Friday July 28, 2023 at his daughter and son-in-laws house in Greensburg.  Mr. Chasarik was born December 20, 1943 in New Kensington to the late John F. and Frances Bogach Chasarik.

John was a member of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church.  He was a graduate of New Kensington High School class of 1961.  John was a career serviceman, retiring as Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve and civil service for 42 years.  Chas was a member of the American Legion Post 446 of Mt. Pleasant.  He also recently worked as a bus driver for DMJ Transportation and really enjoyed seeing all the kids on his route.

John is survived by his loving family, his daughters, Heather Pfeil, and Shannon Hoffman (Martin); his grandchildren, Nolan and Reagan Pfeil, and Gwen and Tatum Hoffman; a special niece Rebecca Gediminskas-Kalberer, who was like a younger sister to him; his bonus family the Swierczeski’s; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sisters, Eleanor, Anna, and Josephine; and by his best friend, Ed Swierczeski.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle St. Mt. Pleasant.  A blessing service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. followed by John’s funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. in Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church.  The American Legion Post 446 of Mt. Pleasant will have military rites at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Tunnel to towers or St. Jude Children’s Hospital in loving memory of John P.
