Obituary of George W. Vomish

George W. Vomish Jr., 92, of Ruffsdale died Thursday October 12, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family.  George was born December 20, 1930 in Crabtree to the late George W. and Helene Dayok Vomish Sr. 

George was a member of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant.  He was a former member of St. John’s the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Scottdale, where he was very involved.  George was a graduate of Greensburg High School class of 1948.  George went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.  He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and trapping. 

George is survived by his loving family, his son, George C. Vomish (Patricia); his grandchildren, Raymond R. Alakson (Julie), Pamela Alakson, Christopher G. Vomish (Abigail Vaughn), and Tyler Vomish; and his 5 great-grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife, Genevra “Skip” Mattey Vomish in 2003; his grandson, Michael P. Vomish in 2007; and by his sister, Barbara Karelis.

Family and friends are invited on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Ealge St., Mt. Pleasant.  A blessing service will be held in the funeral home of Saturday at 1:00 p.m. followed by his funeral mass at 1:30 p.m. at Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant.  Interment will follow in St. John’s Roman Catholic Parish Cemetery.  Military Rites will be accorded by Mt.
