Obituary of Steven J. Rerko

Steven J. “Pete” Rerko, 67, of Tarrs passed away Thursday December 21, 2023 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital.  Steven was born May 20, 1956 in Mt. Pleasant to Agnes Sieckowski Rerko and the late John E. Rerko Sr.

Pete was a graduate of Geibel High School class of 1974.  He was retired from Graft Sales & Service in Scottdale as an Automotive Technician.  Pete was a member of the Hempfield Hunt Club, Bridgeport Sportsmans Club, Mt. Pleasant Slovak Club, Italian Independent Society, Mt. Pleasant Fireman’s Social Club, lifetime member of NRA, East Huntingdon Firemen’s Club, Trustee of the Tri-Town Sportsmen Association, and an honorary member of the Polish Falcons Nest 147.  Pete enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding his Harley Davidson.  He always made sure that his yard looked perfect.  Pete was a dog lover, and he always enjoyed the occasional Stoney’s beer. 

In addition to his mother, Agnes, Pete is survived by his loving family, his wife, Janine D’Amato Rerko; his sisters, Tereasa Rerko (Thom Grundy), and Susan Napenas (Reynaldo); his brother-in-laws, James D’Amato (Karen), Jerry D’Amato (Becky), and Ron Rocafort; his sister-in-law, Margie McElroy (Scott); and by numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces, and great-nephews.  In addition to his father, Pete was preceded in death by his brother, John E. Rerko Jr.; his infant sister, Rose Marie Rerko; his father and mother-in-law, James and Marge D’Amato; and his sister-in-law, Jude` Rocafort.

Family and friends are invited on Friday from 3:00 p.m. until the hour of his funeral service at 6:00 p.m. at Galone-Caruso Funeral Home Inc., Mt. Pleasant.  A private Interment will take place in Visitation Parish Cemetery.  The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at UPMC Shadyside Hospital and Dr. Morcos for their wonderful care of Pete, and they would also like thank all of his family and friends that helped him throughout the past year.  In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to the American Cancer society in loving memory of Steven “Pete” Rerko.  To offer an online condolence please visit our website at www.galone-carusofuneralhome.com
