Obituary of Jerome Salvatore Roberts

 

Jerome (Jerry) Salvatore Roberts, 93, of Pittsburgh, PA, went home to his Lord and Savior Jesus on Wednesday 10/16/24, at Halcyon Senior Living in Bridgeville, PA. 

Jerry was born on November 26, 1930, in Jeannette, PA, to Dora (DelBoccio) and Carmine Roberts.  He married the love his life Nancy Lee Janesko on October 18, 1958, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Mount Pleasant, PA.

Jerry graduated from Jeannette High School in 1949.  While a teenager, Jerry would catch the bus in Jeannette on Saturdays and travel to the William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh to attend the George Heid School of Broadcasting.  This was the first formal step Jerry took to pursue his lifelong dream of being a radio announcer and broadcaster.  His first radio job was at a station in Greensburg, PA, and he later became the program director and announcer for WKJF-FM in Pittsburgh.  Jerry was a pioneer in the development of the beautiful music format and was responsible for the creative product and its implementation.  He received national recognition for his program “Dallas Plus One” which was a look back one year after President Kennedy’s assassination.

Jerry served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany after WWII.  While in Europe, he had the opportunity to travel with his army buddies to many of the other European countries.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Donald and Robert, and by his wife Nancy.  He is survived by his friend Gail Lynn Gruendler of Pittsburgh whom he and Nancy both loved as a daughter, and a niece Traci Lynn Roberts of Latrobe.

As per Jerry’s wishes, there will not be any funeral services.  All arrangements have been entrusted to Galone-Caruso Funeral Home Inc., Mt. Pleasant.  Interment with military honors was accorded by the Mt. Pleasant American Legion Post 446 in Mt.
