Obituary of Richard A. Minick

Richard A. Minick, 77 of Mt. Pleasant passed away Sunday October 20, 2024 in Westmoreland Hospital.  Mr. Minick was born July 24, 1947 in Mt. Pleasant to the late Alex and Helen Niezgoda Minick Jr.

Rick was a member of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary RC Church and the former Transfiguration RC Church in Mt. Pleasant.  He was a graduate of Hurst High School class of 1965.  He was also a graduate of Indiana University of PA class of 1970 and had his Principal Certificate from IUP.  Rick was a science teacher at Greensburg Salem Junior High / Middle School, and also was an Assistant Football Coach and Assistant Athletic Director.  Rick was very proud of being a teacher and loved teaching children.  He also was an avid supporter of the Special Olympics.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Brian R. Minick on April 21, 2017; and his brother-in-law, Sanford W. “Jack” Brothers on January 5, 2005.

Rick is survived by his sister, Patricia M. Brothers of Mt. Pleasant; his grandson, Bryce; and Bryce’s mother, Hillary Haberstock of Jefferson Hills.  He is also survived by his best friends, Eric Karas of Youngwood, and Thomas Marshall of The Villages, FL; and his canine companion, Sadie.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Galone-Caruso Funeral Home Inc., Mt. Pleasant.  A Blessing Service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary RC Church.  Interment will follow in Transfiguration Parish Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to be made to St. Jude Children Research Hospital in loving memory of Richard A.
