Obituary of Kathryn L. Jones McFarland

Mount Pleasant, PA Kathryn L. Jones McFarland, 89, of Mt. Pleasant, died peacefully Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Hempfield Manor, Greensburg, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. McFarland was born Nov. 28, 1924 in Youngwood,PA, the daughter of the late William and Laura Belle Patton Jones . Prior to her retirement, Kay was employed in the Emergency Department at Frick Hospital in Mt. Pleasant. She spent her retirement years traveling the world, fulfilling the dream that she unfortunately never had a chance to share with her late husband. In those travels, she embraced the sights and cultures around her and never missed an opportunity to make a friend of a stranger.She was a member of the William Gelston chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star for many years and in later life found great joy in her friends and activities at the Oaks at the Center in the Woods in California, PA Her greatest happiness and satisfaction however, came from raising her family, supporting and encouraging them and celebrating every important moment and accomplishment. Kathryn is survived by her daughter, Susan McFarland Bandini and her husband, Dr. Bernard R. Bandini, of Dunlevy, whom she proudly loved like her very own son, and her daughter-in-law, Betsy J. Coldsmith McFarland of Youngwood, whom she deeply loved and cherished like a daughter for so many years. She is also survived by her sister, Nancy Delserone of Woodinville, WA, her sister-in-law, Lois Fry Jones of Penn Township, and her nieces and nephews; Drs. Jeffrey and Cindy Jones of Pittsford, NY, Greg and Debbie Jones of Penn Township, Leslie and Peter Mullin of Lincoln, NE, Alicia and Reed Harvey of Snohomish, WA, Bonnie Downs of Youngwood, and Ric, Sue and Madison Downs of Upper St. Clair. In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Howell T. McFarland, Jr. on Dec. 25, 1981, her son, Howell T. "Mac" McFarland III on July 12, 2001, and by her brother, Allen L. Jones, on Jan. 29, 2002. . Family and friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mt. Pleasant. Funeral Services for Kathryn will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM in the Funeral Home, with her pastor, the Rev. Randy Landman officiating. Interment will be in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.
