Obituary of Erwin A. Osip, SSGT USAF (Ret.)

Scottdale, Erwin A. Osip, SSGT USAF (Ret.) age 85 of Scottdale, PA, died Wednesday (01/28/15) in the Excela Heath- Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg, PA. Mr. Osip was born November 25, 1929 in Everson, PA, the son of the late Anthony and Rose Sochacki Osip. He was a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church of Mt. Pleasant. Erwin served for 20 years and two days in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Prior to his retirement, he had worked for U.S. Steel Edgar Thompson Works. Erwin was a member of the American Legion Post 446, and the VFW. Post 3368, both of Mt. Pleasant, and the PAK Club of Everson. He is survived by his loving family: his daughters; Rita Palmer and her husband Wayne of Mt. Pleasant, and Rose Osip of Scottdale, and by his grandson, Jonathan Kolar and Nicole, and his very special great granddaughter, Kennedy Marie Kolar, of whom he was most proud. Erwin is also survived by his brothers and sister, Joseph, Tony and Helen. In addition to his parents, Erwin was preceded in death by his wife Mary I. DeArmitt in 2010, and his brothers and sisters; Eugene, Lewis, Chester, Florence and Frances, and three infant siblings. Family and friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant. A blessing service will be held Monday at 12:00-noon in the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 12:30 PM in St. Pius X RC Church, Mount Pleasant, concluding with military rites accorded by the American Legion Post 446. Private Inurnment will be in the St. Pius X Parish Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. A parish wake service will be held at 3PM Sunday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Excela-Health Hospice in memory of Erwin A. Osip.
