Obituary of Anne Mae (Lydon) Murphy

Mount Pleasant, Anne Mae (Lydon) Murphy, age 86 of Mt. Pleasant, PA, died unexpectedly Thursday (01/28/16) in Excela Health- Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg, PA. Mrs. Murphy was born August 3, 1929 in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of the late Coleman and Mary O'Toole Lydon. She was a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church. Anne attended the DePaul School for the Deaf in Brookline and graduated in 1946. It was at a deaf picnic at Kennywood, that she met her husband, William (Bill) Murphy, whom she married on September 5, 1953. Both her and Bill were lifelong members of the Pittsburgh Association of the Deaf (PAD), the Westmoreland County Deaf Senior Citizens and WPSD Deaf Senior Citizens and they enjoyed socializing with all of their deaf friends and their families. Anne was also a member of the Fredericksburg Deaf Club, Greensburg and the Senior Citizens Center of Mt. Pleasant. Anne always had a smile for everyone and she enjoyed her life to the fullest. She enjoyed sewing, baking, crocheting, playing cards, bingo, doing crossword puzzles and socializing with her deaf friends. Anne's greatest love however was her beloved family; her husband, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Anne was a very kind and gentle lady who will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She is survived by her loving family: her children; Maureen A. Murphy of Jeannette, William P. Murphy, Jr. and his wife Marie of Greensburg, and Coleman T. Murphy and his wife Mary of Derry, her beloved grandchildren; Paul D. Richter, Jr. (Melissa), Zachary T. Murphy, Jason T. DeTesta, and Thomas L. DeTesta, Bryan Bialas, Kristi Bialas and her great grandchildren, Bailey, Tanner and Gillian DeTesta, and Taryn, and Sofie Anne Richter , Gwinevere and Jullian Gearhart. In addition to her parents, Anne was preceded in death by her husband, William P. Murphy, Sr. in February of 1999, by her three brothers, Steven, Coleman and Thomas Lydon, and by her three sisters; Sister Mary Patricia Lydon, Cathryn Lydon Marteusavich, and Margaret "Peg" Dunic. Family and friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 8 PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle St., Mount Pleasant. A blessing service will be held Monday at 9:30 AM in the funeral home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary RC Church, Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Jose Ricky F. Cortez as celebrant. A parish wake service will be held in the funeral home Sunday at 3PM and the Visitation Holy Rosary Society will pray the rosary immediately following. The family suggests memorials may be made to the Pittsburgh Association of the Deaf, 1854 Forbes Ave. Pittsburgh, PA 15219, in memory of Anne Murphy.
