Obituary of Charlotte (Saloom) Mowry

Charlotte Saloom Mowry, age 78 of Acme, PA, (Saltlick Township) died Sunday, January 29, 2017, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Mowry was born May 13, 1938 in Mount Pleasant, PA, the daughter of the late George and Isabelle Karfelt Saloom. Charlotte was a member of St. Michael's Antiochian Orthodox Church of Greensburg. She was a 1956 graduate of the former Ramsay High School, and received her degree from Indiana University of PA in 1960. Charlotte had been employed as a teacher for the Southmoreland School District from 1960 until 1993. She then became the owner/ operator of the Saloom Department Store with her husband Leon. Charlotte was a member of the Connellsville Women's Club, the Connellsville Chapter of the Eastern Star, Past Worthy Matron of the Scottdale Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Mt. Pleasant Business District Authority. Charlotte is survived by her loving family: her husband of 56 years, Leon R. Mowry, her children, Renee Caruso and her husband Todd and Leon R. Mowry, II and his wife Christy, all of Acme, her grandchildren; Christina White (Adam), Jennifer Stouffer (Cedric), Scott Mowry, Samara Mowry, Leon Mowry, III, and Laura Caruso, and by her great grandchildren, Abigail Stouffer, and Liam Mowry. Charlotte is also survived by her brothers and sister: Dr. Albert Saloom and his wife Gloria of Connellsville, Eugene G. Saloom and his wife Nancy of Mt. Pleasant, and Effie Trogdan of Blairsville, GA, and by her sister in law, Marlene Saloom of Mt. Pleasant, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph G. Saloom. Family and friends will be received Tuesday, January 31st and Wednesday, February 1st, from 3 until 8 PM ,at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant. Funeral Services for Charlotte will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM in the St. Michael Antiochian Orthodox Church, 1182 Ashland Street, Greensburg, with the Rt. Rev. John Nosal officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT THE CHURCH. Interment will be in the Donegal Cemetery. Memorial prayers will be sung in the funeral home Tuesday at 7PM and Wednesday at 3PM. The Order of the Eastern Star will conduct services in the funeral home Wednesday at 7PM.
