Obituary of Josephine A Mientus
Josephine Anne Chernek Mientus, went home to the lord, Oct. 19, 2017, in Norvelt, where she was a resident since May 1949. She was a daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Steish Chernek. Mrs. Mientus was a member of the former St. Stanislaus Church in Calumet and attended Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant. Josephine was loved and cherished by all of her family and everyone who knew her. She inspired many people and her gracious kindness was appreciated by many. She was a Christian role model to all. Josephine enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. She loved to bake and cook for her family and her friends, and canning fruits and vegetables. Josephine was a devout Catholic who loved attending church.
Josephine is survived by her daughter, Marian Elizabeth Mientus; her granddaughter, Jaclyn Gross Klejka, and her husband, Jeremy; her two grandsons, Joseph and Andrew Mientus; her great-granddaughter, Madison Klejka; and her daughter-in-law, Jean Mientus. She is also survived by her sister, Irene Harr, and her husband, Robert; her sisters-in-law, Alberta Chernek and Sister Franziska, OSB, and many loving nieces and nephews. Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Mientus; her daughter, Joanne Mientus Gross Nedrow; her son, Robert J. Mientus; and by her brothers and sisters, Joseph, Richard, Harry, Frank, and Edward Chernek, Mary Emert and Mathilda Dunn Grimm.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the GALONE-CARUSO FUNERAL HOME, 204 Eagle St., Mt. Pleasant. The Visitation Holy Rosary Society will pray the rosary at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. A blessing service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the funeral home, followed at 10 a.m. by her Funeral Mass at Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Richard J. Kosisko as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Greensburg.
