I became acquainted with Shirley in about 1987 soon after my son was born. I was an emergency physician at Westmoreland Hospital and had a new baby and a 2 year old daughter that I needed help with while I was at work. I interviewed several people, but there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted the calm, sweet, nature of Shirley around my children. She kept them for several years while I worked and went through a difficult divorce with my first husband. Shirley never hesitated to drive the long distance from Mt. Pleasant to Murrysville in all kinds of weather. She provided the children with loving care and emotional support when I could not be there. The kids grew to love her dearly, as did I. I often wondered what happened to her as we lost touch. The babies she watched are now aged 29 and 32 and doing very well thanks to a good start from Shirley. I will never forget you.
