Obituary of Mona Sybil Townsend

Mount Pleasant, Mona Sybil Hearn Lyall Townsend, age 83 of Mount Pleasant PA, died Thursday (2/17/2011) in Excela Heath- Frick Hospital. Mt. Pleasant, PA. Mrs. Townsend was born August 2, 1927 in Stowmarket, England, the daughter of the late Russell and Ethel Hearn. She was a member of the Pennsville Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant; A woman of great faith, who loved her lord and savior and was at great peace knowing that she would be joining him in heaven. Mona and her husband Irwin spent the first 20 years of their life together residing in Bath, NY, and then moving to Bullskin Township. . Mona was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and according to her grandchildren, "made the best applesauce". She enjoyed Knitting, gardening and was an avid reader. She is survived by her loving family: her husband Irwin N. Townsend, her children; Robert Lyall and his wife Ivay of Bear, DE, James Lyall and his wife Carlean of W. Jefferson, NC, Richard Lyall and his wife Wendy of North East, MD, Brenda Geesaman and her husband Brian of Mt. Pleasant, Elizabeth McDermott and her husband Michael of Bear, DE, Norma Prater and her husband Kenneth of Rockville, NC, Jo Mallonee and her husband David of Elkton, MD, Patti Carnaroli and her husband Rob, and Mellissa Beers , all of Elkton, MD. She will be greatly missed by her Twenty -Six Grandchildren and Twenty Six Great Grandchildren. Mona is also survived by her sister; Violet Ward of Stowmarket, England. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Elmer G. Lyall in 1975, her grandson; Mark Shellender and by her Eight siblings of which she was the youngest. There will be no local visitation. Family and friends will be received on Sunday from 4 to 6PM at the Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 Stockton Street, Elkton, MD, where her funeral services will be held on Monday @3:00Pm in the funeral home with her son-in-law the Rev. Brian K. Geesaman, officiating. Interment will be in the Gilpin Memorial Park, Elkton, MD. Local arrangements have been entrusted to The Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mt.
