Obituary of Hazel A. Christner

Hazel A. (Keefer) Christner, age 83 of Mount Pleasant, PA, died Thursday, (7/15/2021) in the Excela Health- Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg, PA. Mrs. Christner was born May 15, 1938 in Mount Pleasant, PA, the daughter of the late Elgie and Mildred Albert Keefer. She was a member of the Mt. Joy Covenant Brethren Church. Hazel was a 1956 graduate of the former Ramsay High School. She had worked for many years as a Retail Clerk for the Saloom Department Store in Mount Pleasant and also did alterations for many people. She is survived by her loving family: her children, Wendell K. Christner, Diane Ross (Steven) of Woodinville, WA and Debra Christner of Kirkland, WA and her adoring granddaughter, Cheyenne Christner. Hazel is also survived by her brothers and sister, David Keefer (Barb) of Mt. Pleasant, James Keefer of Connellsville and Margaret “Peg” Brown of Irwin. Hazel was also “Mother and grandmother” to many of her children’s friends. In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Christner in 1994, her sister, Mary Gayle Jordan, her brother, Charles “Chuck” Keefer Sr., her daughter in law, Barbara K. Christner, her brother-in-law, Pete Brown and by her sisters-in-law, Adesta J. and Dolores J. Keefer. Family and friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant. Funeral Services for Hazel will be held Monday at 11:00 AM in the funeral home, with her Pastor the Rev. Lee Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Joy Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Norvelt Fire Department in memory of Hazel A. Christner.
