Obituary of Ethel Maude Cooper

Ethel Maude Cooper, age 97 of Mount Pleasant, PA died Friday (6/22/2018) in Woodcrest Senior Living. 

Miss Cooper was born February 2, 1921 in Mount Pleasant, PA, the daughter of the late John Franklin and Jerusha Christner Cooper. Ethel was a lifelong member and an Elder of the Reunion Presbyterian Church. She was a 1939 graduate of the former Ramsay High School, were she was the president of her class all four years  and served as chairman of  class reunions over the years, the last one being 75 years, celebrated at the Ramsay all class reunion in 2014.   Ethel  joined West Penn Power Company in 1939   and was employed  there for 47 years, starting in the Mount Pleasant office before being promoted to the Pittsburgh office in a supervisory position, then returning to Greensburg when headquarters were moved to Cabin Hill. Her career took her from collecting electric bills in the local office to leading seminars in New York City for the Administrative Management Society of which she was a member.   Working with and being with her fellow employees at West Penn Power was the most enjoyable part of her job.  After her retirement, she spent endless hours volunteering  for many groups and organizations in the area. She traveled extensively , visiting all 50 states and many foreign countries.  

 Ethel was a member of the Historical Societies of Bullskin Township and Mount Pleasant, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Women’s Club and  the Saturday Afternoon Club of Scottdale  and Mount Pleasant. She was truly a lady, who had  a smile and a kind word for everyone she encountered. Ethel will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She is survived by her brother, Glenn Cooper and by her beloved nieces and nephews, as well as great and great great nieces and nephews, whom she loved and adored.

In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters; Harold Cooper in 1969, Albert Cooper in 1998, Helen Myers in 2010, and Janet Hawkins in 2012.

Family and friends will be received   Thursday from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 PM at  the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home ,  204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant. Funeral Services for Ethel will be held Friday at 11:00 AM in the Reunion Presbyterian Church, 769 West Main Street, Mount Pleasant, with her Pastor, the Rev. Susan Washburn officiating.

Private Interment will be in the Mt Joy Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.
